Village Elder

February 2003

Continuing the “Moroccan” series, the reference photo for this piece was taken in Marrakesh. My vision with this piece was to capture the dynamic difference in culture between the Elder and his countryman. The “Village Elder” in this piece for example, is wearing the traditional ‘turban’ (Muslim), and yet his countryman (depicted in “Atlas Mountain Berber“) would not wear the traditional turban. As a portrait artist, I look for how one identifies oneself, as it is part of the ‘story’ telling portion I am so adamant about in all my pieces.
