Working Companions

February 2002

Light and setting were an interesting challenge for this photo taken to reference this piece, another in the “Moroccan” series, as it was taken in a brick/stone Moroccan basement used to make olive oil. This is an “Olive Farmer” showing affection for his hard-working mule. No flash was available at the time, so I held the camera steady for 1.5-second exposure. Notice how the limited light does not show all… not all needs to be revealed. The mind already knows the unseen shape, it knows where it ends. This adds to the ‘story’ and the ‘mood’ of the piece.
