Desperate Hands

November 2021

A different look of expressionism for me. The photo reference came from a sculpture I saw in person, then I took an overhead photo, which stayed with me and became the inspiration for this drawing . I was really intrigued with what these hands are representing. I wanted to continue that storyline as I used pencil for its texturing to help solidify the realism capabilities.

Maybe I’m showing my dark side. I found myself constantly composing and perfecting as I worked out each section, creating a storyline… but not of doom or darkness, instead rising above to lift and help each other find our own personal version of ‘hope’, individually and universally. This was an impactful study for me which took over 340 hours to complete.

Also available as a 32 x 24(h) poster.
